Horror, Wes Anderson-ized

This superb SNL horror send-up of Wes Anderson popped up around Halloween but I haven't been able to find a non-geo-blocked clip until a friend alerted me to this site a couple of days ago. It's done amazingly well, aping Anderson's character types, colour schemes and symmetrical compositions to bring us a version of a slasher movie if had been made by Anderson himself. Click here for an in-depth breakdown of how it was all achieved.

The Raid... with Claymation Cats!

The title says it all! Watch the ultra-violent Indonesian martial arts The Raid remade as a claymation short featuring... cats! If you missed it at the movies, The Raid will probably be coming out on DVD & Blu-ray in August from Madman.

Spoof Trailers: The Avengers ('52 & '78)

What The Avengers might look like if it had been made in 1952... ...and 1978... I'd see either version in a heartbeat!

Spoof Trailer: Movie: The Movie

The idea for this sounds good - or at least, a little amusing - on paper, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired, like a stinky Oscar skit. I guess it's a bit churlish to knock something that was obviously scraped together quickly and is admittedly impressive for the number of stars it managed to cram in 10 minutes spoofy trailering for the Jimmy Kimmel show.. but meh. Your mileage might vary.

Spoof Trailer: The Walken Dead

I love a good Christopher Walken impression, here's a video full of them, and they're zombies to boot... a smart little spoof of AMC's The Walking Dead, which is coming to DVD and Blu-ray on December 5th!

Cult Classic Trailer: For Y'ur Height Only

If you had told me, 7 years go (when I started working here), that we'd be stocking For Y'ur Height Only in our library, I'd probably think you were punkin' me. This Filipino midget-spy-spoof insanity was one of the treasures from the days of Pete Tombs' Mondo Macabro (the DVD label released it in 2005) and I never thought I'd see the day when it'd be getting a local release. So props to Vendetta Films, whose October 19th release of this nutty gem (and its sequel The Impossible Kid) will be getting my award for Most Surprising Local DVD Release of the Year. Check out the trailer:

Also worth checking out is Machete Maidens Unleashed! a documentary about low-budget Filipino filmmaking in the '70s from the director of the superb Not Quite Hollywood. Long live Weng Weng!

George Costanza: The Movie

I know the Shining trailer mash-up formula has been done to death by now, but here's a little clip Seinfeld fans might find amusing. Imagine an entire dramatic movie of George Costanza (the mind boggles) - it might look something like this:

DVD Commentary: The Movie

This clever College Humor send-up of DVD commentaries just made me wonder how many people actually spend their time listening to audio commentaries anymore? (or sift through extra features for that matter?) Speaking for myself, it's been a long, long, LONG time since I've been tempted to re-watch a movie with the director/cast audio commentary on. Back in the early years of DVD, it was definitely a pretty cool novelty - all these little bonus features which you could check out to "enrich" your viewing experience of a particular film. Now, meh, not so much. I'd rather spend those two hours watching another film I haven't seen before... life's too short!

By the way, AV Club do a great column called Commentary Tracks of the Damned which spotlights cringey audio commentaries of shoddy movies - worth a read to see how NOT to do an audio commentary. Anyway without further ado, here's DVD Commentary: The Movie:

Luxo Goes Nutso

This is a darkly funny parody of Pixar's logo intro from CollegeHumor where Luxo the Lamp goes homicidal. Don't think we'll be seeing this one gracing the start of any Pixar film anytime soon...

Hitler Finds Out...

I think this Hitler clip from Downfall is too played out by now to be really effective, but here are the latest spoofs, one where he learns of MJ's death and the other of Sarah Palin's resignation. (WARNING: contains offensive language)

The best still remains this Blu-ray vs HD-DVD one:
