Keanu Avenges Dog's Death and Wows Fantastic Fest

If anyone needs a career resuscitation, it's Keanu Reeves. Although he did praise-worthy work with his underseen-and-appreciated 2013 directorial debut Man of Tai Chi, the gargantuan calamity that was 47 Ronin proved to be a large nail-in-the-coffin for the star. Enter his forthcoming hitman action-thriller John Wick, seemingly out of nowhere. After premiering at Fantastic Fest over the weekend, twitter lit up with raves about the film, which is apparently directed by his Point Break stunt double! The trailer makes it out to be a throwback to the bullet-ridden action flicks of the '90s, which is fine by me; any film that has Keanu uttering the line, "That dog was a final gift from my dying wife" must be kinda fun, right? Trailer: Taken 2

When Taken came out in 2008, it kinda took everyone by surprise: we watched in jaw-dropping awe as Liam Neeson, pushing 60, was kicking ass like nobody's business. Meanwhile the film destroyed the box office, reaping over $200 mill worldwide. Now 60, Neeson's going to be doing it all over the again, punching throats and taking down more Albanian baddies in the Olivier Megaton-directed, Istanbul-set Taken 2. Sure, the attempts to stretch the franchise strains credibility (now it's ex-wifey Famke Janssen who gets 'napped!), but the action looks solid and Neeson game for another round of don't-mess-with-the-retired-CIA-op.

Trailer: Colombiana

In the hopes of repeating the success of his surprise hit Taken a few years ago, Luc Besson's back with Colombiana, an action thriller starring Avatar's Zoe Saldana as a stealthy killer looking for her parent's murderers. Featuring an international cast, including our own Cliff Curtis, and directed by Transporter 3's Oliver "not Megatron" Megaton, the film looks to be very much in the same vein as Besson's female assassin-type flicks Leon and La Femme Nikita, and fits well with the recent trend of grrrl-power action films such as Sucker Punch, Salt, Kick-Ass and the forthcoming Hanna. Saldana looks feisty in the trailer, demonstrating maybe more range than she might have under thick Na'vi make-up. Ange Jolie step back...
