Leonard Maltin vs. The Multiplex

Maybe Leonard Maltin's not so cool anymore, I dunno, but his 1995 Movie Guide remains one of my most frequent go-to books for quick film reviews. Anywho he's recently set up his own Youtube channel, and just made this rant against underwhelming service in movie theatres, particularly addressing how the digital era has automated everything and ushered out the requirement of any human presence behind the scenes. Call him an old-fashioned coot or whatever, but he makes some points which in my experience, are entirely valid and common today. If theatre owners are going to charge crazy prices for tickets these days, the least they could do is make sure every aspect of the movie-going experience is worth every penny, including checking little things like focus, audio, etc.

Michael Shannon Reads Insane Sorority Letter

Like Christopher Walken or Werner Herzog, Michael Shannon could probably read a telephone book and make it sound like the most magnetic thing to listen to. Give him a vitriolic sorority letter? Amazing. I missed the whole drama about this letter last week, but here's Shannon reading it in his own magnificently ranty way we've come to know and love from his roles in Boardwalk Empire, Take Shelter, Premium Rush, etc. Warning: profanities ahead.

This guy left me in stitches. I hate annoying movie audiences as much as the next guy, but this youtuber is way, way over the top. He rants about his recent experience during a screening of the Zooey Deschanel romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer. Warning: contains offensive language. And he goes on for 8 minutes. Too funny.
