Time After Time

There's been a lot of time travel talk on the web to coincide with the release of Rian Johnson's Looper (go see it!), which is fine by me, since it's one of my favourite genres. Here's a list of stuff to read and see if you need more time travel in your life:
  • A Top 10 list I compiled for Flicks
  • A blog by NZ Herald's Dominic Corry
  • Indie Wire's Criticwire Survey: The Best Time Travel Movie
  • Flavorwire's How Time Travel Works video essay
  • Interview with Rian Johnson about Looper - do not watch if you haven't seen the movie, it's spoiler-heavy. But for those who've seen it a lot of interesting points to chew on.
  • Tom Cruise has his own time travel flick in the works: All You Need is Kill, directed by Doug Liman and due for release in 2014.

Teaser for a Trailer: Looper

I know I've ragged on about this "teaser trailer for a teaser trailer" business recently, but I'm gonna make another exception (ha!), 'cos it's Looper, and I'm crazily excited about Looper. Also I dig the presence of star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and director Rian Johnson in this clip... nice personal touch, etc. The full teaser trailer will be out in the next few days. In the meantime enjoy some quick flashes of footage from the flick here.

Loopy for Looper

SlashFilm has just posted some early buzz on Rian Johnson's next film, the time-travel thriller Looper and I couldn't resist echoing my anticipation for it. Although his sophomore effort The Brothers Bloom was a bit wobbly, I'm expecting - at least hoping - Looper will demonstrate the creativity and conviction of his debut Brick, albeit on a larger scale. Johnson's been documenting the production on tumblr, which is filled with beautiful images from the set, and if it's any indication of how the film will turn out, then it's going to be a real stunner. Unfortunately we'll have to wait until September 2012 to see it...
