Trailer: Machete + Lego Version

I see the future of movies - and it's all fake trailers being turned into real movies. Here's another one of them in the pipeline: Machete, Rob Rodriguez's Mexploitation actioner which originally appeared on his and Tarantino's ill-fated Grindhouse project.

A few things of interest to note:
  • it's the first lead role for Danny Trejo, the Mexican-American character who's appeared in hundreds of films in heavy/tough guy/henchmen-type parts (he's 66!)
  • Jeff Fahey (for Lost fans like myself who can't get enough of Lapidus)!
  • Steven Seagal, back on the big screen - now how did Rodriguez rope Seagal in for this? The guy turned down The Expendables!
  • Michelle Rodriguez - same role she's played in every movie she's ever been in...
  • Jessica Alba/Linsday Lohan - weak
  • Don Johnson - love the tufts of grey hair showing under the hat
Everything in the trailer looks a bit too self-consciously tongue-in-cheek, but it'll be a treat to see those old-timers getting some theatrical action.

And now the LEGO VERSION by some dedicated fanboy:

Rutger Hauer is... Hobo with a Shotgun

AICN is reporting that Rutger Hauer has signed on to star in Jason Eisener's Hobo with a Shotgun, the former fake grindhouse trailer-turned-feature length film. The Nova Scotia filmmaker won the contest at the 2007 South by Southwest Film Festival to create a fake trailer as part of the promotion for the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature Grindhouse. The trailer's a pretty good attempt to recreate the kind of grungy, sleazy exploitation films that played grindhouses in the '70s, but it's hard to tell whether the translation to feature length will be as entertaining, and there's all the chance in the world that we could have another Snakes on a Plane on our hands. Still, the prospect of seeing Rutger Hauer as a Hobo with a Shotgun is keeping my hopes afloat.

Machete Nabs Lohan!

Holy crap - Robert Rodriguez's already-eclectic cast for Machete just got more eclectic: troubled paparazzi fave Lindsay Lohan has been confirmed to star next to the likes of Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal (!!!), Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey for the director's feature-length expansion of his fake trailer for his 2007 Tarantino-collab double feature flop Grindhouse. It now rivals Stallone's The Expendables - which has Jet Li, Jason Statham, Eric Roberts, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke - for some wild dream-casting to look forward to. Great to see those old '80s has-beens returning to screen, but can this be too much of a good thing? Here's the Machete trailer:
