Trailer: Safe and Safe House

A couple of action-packed trailers for upcoming films with the word Safe in their titles and starring two actors who I'll almost always watch simply because they look cool beating the crap out of people. Both films seem to be on par quality-wise, though I might give the edge to Safe House because of Denzel's acting muscle.

Trailers: Jackass 3-D + Unstoppable

Good morning, two new trailers to kick off Monday for you. First up, Jackass 3-D: it was bound to happen sooner or later, and the trailer promises more of their wildly irresponsible stunts and antics. Some of it looks pretty amusing, but I also can't help but feel a little meh - like the novelty's worn off. For example, the bit where the gorilla enters the living room of Bam Margera's long-suffering parents' house... look at his mum's reaction... the surprise on her face doesn't even look convincing anymore, and almost feigned.

Secondly, 20th Century Fox's Unstoppable, another Tony Scott/Denzel Washington collab, and the 2nd train movie they've done together following last year's mediocre remake of The Taking of Pelham 123. I'm more excited about this one, I'm getting a real Runaway Train vibe from the trailer (though perhaps minus the existentialist stuff). I doubt it'll be as great, but it'll be entertaining at very least. Star Trek's Chris Pine also stars.

Trailer: The Book of Eli

Is it just me or does Hollywood currently seem hellbent on feeding us with more and more images of the world's destruction? I can't recall the last time when there have been so many apocalypse/post-apocalypse-themed films in such a short period of time. We've had things like Children of Men, I Am Legend and Cloverfield in the last couple of years, all projecting none-too-optimistic outlooks on the future, and this year there's already been Terminator: Salvation and Knowing, and forthcoming are The Road and 2012, the latter already shaping up to be the ultimate word in end-of-the-world porn.

We can another one to the list now with Warner's The Book of Eli, due early in 2010, starring Denzel Washington as a lone warrior who holds the answer to humanity's survival. Interesting to see the return of the Hughes Brothers, who haven't directed anything since From Hell in 2001. While their films have always been kind of uneven, there's no questioning they're visually adept filmmakers, and the trailer for Eli looks like the movie will look pretty sweet if nothing else. The shots of Denzel looking extremely badass and throwing some killer moves add a bit to the anticipation too.
