Doco Short: From One Second to the Next

If you're one of those people who have been guilty on occasion of texting while driving, please take some time to watch this short 34-minute documentary by Werner Herzog (Cave of Forgotten Dreams) commissioned by AT&T for an anti-texting-and-driving campaign. Through four sets of moving stories interviewing both victims/families of victims and driving texters, it delivers a loud and clear message, highlighting how a split second decision to attend to something so trivial can irrevocably and tragically alter lives forever. Time to put away that phone while you're on the road folks!

Friday Clips #1

Welcome to the first edition of Friday Clips, a compilation - or more precisely, a dumping ground - of interesting/funny/weird clips and trailers that I didn't get around to posting about during the week and presented in a more concise fashion. So basically my tribute to the fact that on Friday our brains seem to slow down and have no time nor power to process large blocks of text - it's Random Stuff, but solely with video.

The Scared is Scared - cute little short film made from a six-year-old's story:

Life of Pi Screening... in a swimming pool... in Paris:

Biting Elbows music video - wild, violent first-person action, not for kids, the squeamish and easily offended:

Lil Bubs and Friendz - cat memes taken to the next inevitable level:

Game of Thrones Season 3 trailer - I realise Season 2 just came out on DVD, but for the hardcore fans...:

The Return of Brent

For those who have missed David Brent, Ricky Gervais has reprised his iconic role from the original UK series of The Office in the 10-minute online short The Office Revisited. It's a bit of tease that leaves you wanting more, but I guess this will be as close as we'll come seeing more of the show, which wrapped up over a decade ago. Catch up with Brent below and see what he's been up to:

Short Film: Iron Man vs. Bruce Lee

The talented guy behind that cute Dragon Baby short last year returns with a similarly fun action short pitting Bruce Lee against Iron Man. Why not? This will be the most entertaining 1 minute you'll have today.

Short Film: The Centrifuge Brain Project

This hysterical short film is best seen cold. I won't say anything except..."Gravity is a mistake". Totally safe for work so don't worry about your boss looking over your shoulder.

Animated Short: Paperman

If you caught Wreck It-Ralph at the movies, you would've probably been charmed by Paperman, a gorgeous animated short from John Kahrs and Walt Disney Animation Studios that harks back to the era of silent storytelling. But for those who missed it, it's now available to view on Youtube and totally worth six minutes of your day. The music swells a bit too much at the end for me, but that doesn't take away from the fact this is one of the most beautiful things Disney has produced lately and I hope to see more of this exquisite blend of hand-drawn and CGI animation from them in the future.

Short Film: Dragon Baby

Simple concept (kung fu baby vs dragon), executed well = awesomeness, and awesome cuteness.

Feeling a little down this morning? Watch this charming short doco about Caine, a 9-year-old boy who builds an arcade entirely out of cardboard in his dad's auto parts store. Totally worth 10 minutes of your day, and safe for work...
