Ever think that the Star Wars prequels were too waffly, too boring, just too shitty? Well actor/editing enthusiast Topher Grace (That '70s Show, Venom from Spidey 3) probably thought so too, and has gone and re-edited the three films into one 85-minute feature. The bad news is that it'll probably never see the light of day, for obvious reasons. But the good news is Peter Sciretta from SlashFilm attended the private screening of the cut and has the lowdown here.
By the way, Alexandre O. Philippe's fan-assisted documentary The People vs George Lucas is coming to DVD next month. Here's a clip... hate or love Lucas, it looks pretty good:

For the Star Wars Fan with Everything #12
A very cool open letter from Steve Spielberg to George Lucas that appeared in Variety congratulating Lucas on the success of Star Wars. These guys really knew how to work it back in the day... this kind of showy, elbow-nudging levity amongst filmmakers is rare today. Imagine say, James Cameron doing this to er, Michael Bay? Unlikely.

For the Star Wars Fan with Everything... #5
Believe it or not, once upon a time David Lynch was in the running to direct Return of the Jedi. In this clip, he tells us, in good humour, why he turned it down (can you even imagine a Lynch version of Jedi??):

For the Star Wars Fan with Everything... #2
This bit of news is too daft not to mention, especially in the light of today's absurd mass global media hysteria over Balloon Boy... Someone actually sold a used Starbucks cup that George Lucas drank from on eBay! The seller claims it's the real deal and they acquired it from a "press event at Skywalker Ranch". The item went for $51 to Reelguyz.com, who've posted a pic on their site which validates the authenticity of the cup! Ridiculous! Click here to see the auction.
